Remember When...

I was so lucky to be able to eat lunch with two of my favorite people from BYU Elementary Education Program. This should be a tribute to Raylene, Megan, Melanie, and Lindsay for encouraging me, keeping me happy, and enduring the program with me, but, it's not. None of these 4 would actually guess I finished that major after my mission and actually want to teach. Ha ha, miracles do happen. Thanks girls!!

So back to lunch w/ Ray and Meg. We did a lot of reminiscing and laughing and eating some really good subs at Ned's. One of my favorite highlights from college came up and I'm still laughing about it. Oh man, hilarious.

Help you get in the scene. Megan, Melanie, and someone else that I can't think of right now were driving in my red jeep cherokee (how I miss that jeep!) to Mapleton to teach in the classrooms we were assigned to. Ok, so remember, I didn't like being a teacher and I didn't care about the BYU El Ed program and would've rather slept in that day as I had really bad allergies that day. Anyone that knows me when I get allergies, it's not a good sight and I just want to have a cold rag, nyquil, and be left alone.

We were driving down old State street from Provo to Mapleton, if I remember right, I think it was even raining a little bit. Already struggling to see out my windshield with my swollen eyes,  I had to fight with the rain. Alright, one more thing before I get into the story. Ever since I took my American Sign Language courses, I have always told myself, "If I ever get pulled over, I will turn off the radio, hide my cell phone, and act deaf to get out of the ticket."

Alright, we are driving along, I'm in a bad mood and a cop passes me, turns around and turns on his lights and sirens. I wasn't even speeding, so this made me even more furious and my whole ""If I ever get pulled over, I will turn off the radio, hide my cell phone, and act deaf to get out of the ticket." attitude went out the window and my rebel-criminal-I will get out of this one on my own-attitude kicked in. I immediately sped away and drove for about another half mile, turned into this old store, parked behind it, realized the store was closed and I can't run in and hide, turned to the girls in the car and said, "We are going to have to hop this fence and run!"

Melanie and I threw the doors open. I turn around and Megan is freaking out and telling us to stop and stay in the car and that we cannot outrun the cops. Mel and I get back in the car and just sit there wondering what we should do. We wait a minute, already late to get to the school and now going to have to explain what happened, we continue on our journey to school. As I turn the corner to the school, there is a cop ahead with its lights on. "They knew where to find us!" I was really scared and probably even attempted returning to Provo to go back to bed.

We arrive at the school, escape to our classrooms, explain what happened and go on throughout the day. On our drive home, we pass by the store we 'hid' behind and it wasn't such a great hiding spot. We were in very visible view and we all had a really good laugh. The cop wasn't even after us to begin with. Because if he was, he sure would've found us  without problem. Ha ha Oh man, I have tears coming down my cheeks right now from laughing so hard again.  Everyday from then on, when I have driven past (I wish I could remember the store's name now) I think of what a bad criminal I would be, I wouldn't stand a chance against the cops.

(Added from Megan :)

Ha ha. Perfect! That was so funny! I remember making up headlines like, "4 BYU El Ed student arrive at Mapleton Elementary with holes torn in their teacher slacks after attempting to run from police. Students stare wide eyed as their student teachers are handcuffed and escorted to police vehicles." Phew- glad that never made it to BYU's police beats!
