A nomad for..a week? 2-weeks? year?

Wow, I definitely have learned a great deal these past weeks. I have become a nomad and have been living from here and there. I went to Tucson for a week to be a Nanny, holy hard work! My brother in law is gambling away, I mean working in Vegas until my sister and the 4 children can move up there. Then I went to Mesa with my other sister to enjoy the warmth and get stuff ready to move there.  And now, I'm back home where it is cold :( But not for long, off to be a nomad again next week...

Lesson #1 It doesn't matter to dress your kids cute in the morning, 2 hours later you are just going to have to put those clothes in the wash and put on another cute outfit. After 5 times of this daily, it doesn't matter what they wear or if it even matches.

Lesson #2 Diets-BLAH. My sister encouraged me to do the South Beach diet with her and I didn't want to do it and then I woke up and started to do it. I have really surprised myself with great self-control. Even tho I'm always tempted to grab a handful of peanut M&Ms when she isn't in the room, I am still faithful to this madness.

Lesson #3 You need to measure out all ingredients and don't assume you heard what you wanted to hear. I was very very excited to make my first homemade soup. My sister had bought all the ingredients and left the house. I wanted to make the soup just right and impress her when she got home. Before she left I asked, "Is one can of broth one cup?" I heard "Yes."  I only called her for a couple of questions, like where is the blender and what in the heck does puree mean? Ha. I went to work. I was a real chef, I didn't measure anything, and I mean ANYTHING! I was so proud of myself :) 1 hour and 45 minutes later the soup wasn't thickening. My sister came home with fajitas and so I left it on the stove, ate the fajitas, finally decided to go back to the soup and actually taste it. Oh gross, it was soooo gross. Way too much lemon, and milk, and everything else I added. When trying to figure out everything that went wrong, I asked my sister the same question, she replied, "I said yes, one cup is in one can." Ha ha ha Yup, missed that boat. I guess I'm not a soup maker!

Lesson #4 If you want someone to follow up with you on your goals, tell a 7 year old. My nephew made sure I kept my goal everyday or he would remind me and make me feel bad that I hadn't kept it that day. Also, my niece made sure to remind me I was on a diet all day everyday and rubbing it in she could have chocolate milk, cheetos, cookies, ice cream, fruit (oh how I'm still craving fruit!) yes everything I wanted. Aren't children so sweet?

Lesson #5 Once you have children, naps disappear.

Lesson #6 If you want to become Christlike, be around children for a week. You will learn from them and you will also figure out all the areas you lack and know what you need to change!

Lesson #7 I have learned how to correctly load the dishwasher finally. I grew up being the dishwasher. But there in Tucson, they had a dishwasher and I got to load and unload it about 4 times a day. I became pretty good at it. Probably not up to par w/ my brother in law but hey, I have definitely improved!

Lesson #8 I have made so many new kinds of healthy food. It's fun! Okay, so I messed up on a few, but still. I made my first Quiche(way too much spinach but I did it!) Taco Soup(I ate it for 3 days straight) I can make some mean Omelets now.  Swedish Meatballs(ha, don't ask about those either)

I could go on and on, with lessons I have learned everyday from being this Nomad I have turned into. I am trying not to worry about finding a job and just trying to enjoy this time off that I have and finding the good in each day. I think my favorite part of this whole traveling around not belonging anywhere is last Sunday at church. A girl comes and sits down next to me and she asked me if I was even old enough to be in a singles' ward!! Ha ha!! YA!!!!!
ATTENTION: Guys, I am not 17, you can still ask me out and it will be okay!

  1. While you have time off you should read Intuitive Eating, best book about food you will ever (and I repeat EVER) read. It will change the way you look at food and dieting. Second, remember when Natalie use to always get mad at you for not loading the dishwasher right? haha Remember when you almost punched her in the face haha not really, but you could have. I found a job for you up here in Utah teaching 2nd grade. It is just sitting here waiting for you. COME BACK!

  3. Our Dear Friend:
We NEED you to come back to China - forget Utah or Arizona! Our struggles with Cantonese are becoming legendary (to us, anyway!) Someday, someday... We love you; you're the best teacher in the world.
